Michelle Egan is a Professor and Jean Monnet Chair ad personam, Co-Director of the Transatlantic Policy Center in the School of International Service, º£½Ç»»ÆÞ, and formerly a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center. Michelle Egan specializes in European and American politics with a specific focus on political economy and comparative politics. She is currently working on several projects related to national security and trade, federalism and multi-level governance, single market integration, foreign economic policy, global governance, transatlantic relations, challenges to the liberal order and subnational politics. Her past research has included published work on Britain, Canada, EU, Spain, Belgium and the United States ranging from trade liberalization to Brexit.
Professor Egan publications include five books: Contestation and Polarization in Global Governance: European Responses 2024 (co-edited with Kolja Raube, Julien Chaisse and Jan Wouters) Edward Elgar; Single Markets: Economic Integration in Europe and the United States Oxford University Press, 2015; Creating a Transatlantic Marketplace: Government Policies and Business Strategies Manchester University Press, 2005; Creating a Transatlantic Marketplace AICGS; Constructing a European Market: Standards, Regulation and Governance. Oxford University Press, 2001.
She has also authored numerous articles and policy reports; delivered talks in around two dozen countries at both universities and think-tanks and conducted many media interviews with both domestic and international news media. She has delivered three keynote lectures on public diplomacy, market integration, and transatlantic relations in Canada, the Netherlands and the United States. She speaks with different local and regional audiences including World Affairs and Foreign Policy groups.

Michelle Egan seeks to connect policy-relevant research to wider public audiences. She has given talks or been engaged with working groups at Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, USTR, National Intelligence Council, European Central Bank, European Parliament Liaison Office, European Commission, and State Department. She has been involved in briefings for Ambassador designates and Congressional staffers.Ìý She has also spoken to a variety of other business and civil society associations and think tanks including Aspen, Wilson Center, GMF, Atlantic Council, CEPS, IAI, and Chatham House. She is past Chair of the European Union Studies Association, and co-editor of the widely known award winning Palgrave Series on the European Union.
Her work has been supported by major fellowships and grants including the German Marshall Fund (US), the American German Institute Bosch Fellowship, a DAAD Transatlantic Fellowship (Germany/US), Aspen Institute (Germany), European University Institute Jean Monnet Fellowship (Italy), Center for European Policy Studies (Belgium), European Commission, Wilson Center Fellowship, Council of Foreign Relations (CFR) International Affairs Fellowship (Canada).
She has been part of large-scale network grants including the EU Studies Consortium (ACES) with local DC based universities including SAIS, GW and Georgetown, the EU-Renew Network to understand Europe’s role in an evolving global context with nineteen institutions, the Transworld Network Redefining the transatlantic relationship and its role in shaping global governance
Michelle Egan teaches a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate level including Global Governance, Contemporary Europe, First Year Seminar, European Foreign Policy, Secession and Independence Movements, European Integration, among others.
Within º£½Ç»»ÆÞ, Michelle Egan has been awarded a variety of teaching and research awards.
Michelle Egan received the Morton Bender Prize given to one associate professor annually for their research, teaching and service contributions.

She is also the faculty advisor for the European Studies Certificate, which is open to students from all disciplines and fields at the graduate and undergraduate level who wish to focus their studies on Europe.
